The conference was organized by the Global e-Sustainability Initiative (GeSI), which is a joint initiatives of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), co-hosted by ITAHK and OFTA.  The conference is also the first outreach program organized by GeSI in the region.  This has been held successfully in Hong Kong at the HKCEC on May 22-23, 2002.

As co-hosts of the conference, ITAHK and OFTA are committed to promoting pro-environmental management in the telecommunications sector.  Through joint efforts with the GeSI, the two organizations have lined up leading experts from around the world to share with industry members in the Asia-Pacific region their insights and experience in relation to pro-environmental work in the telecommunications industry.

Chairman of ITAHK, Mr. Tony Hau has invited to give welcome speech, along with Mr. Anthony Wong of OFTA, Mme J. Aloisi de Larderel, UNEP, GeSI Secretary and Dr. Chris Tuppen, GeSI Chair.
