Theme of
2009 - Protecting children in cyberspace
Children everywhere have the right to
a safe environment, even when that environment
is a cyber one. The connection might be
virtual, the danger is real.
The World Telecommunication and Information
Society Day, 17 May, to commemorate the
founding of the ITU in 1865, had been
celebrated in Hong Kong for the third
year in 2009. In 2009, Communications
Association of Hong Kong (CAHK), with
full support from the Office of the Telecommunication
Authority (OFTA), had partnered with the
Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (HKFYG)
to continue in accomplishing the mission
in promoting key messages of WTISD to
the youth community in Hong Kong with
an aim to enlighten their awareness of
Information and Communication Technologies
(ICT) development in Hong Kong.
There was a Prizes Presentation &
Launch Ceremony taken place at the Auditorium,
9/F, The HKFYG Building. Under Secretary
for Commerce and Economic Development
Bureau - Mr. Gregory SO, and Director-General
of OFTA - Mrs. Marion LAI CHAN Chi
Kuen, had attended as guest of honors
to support and the ceremony.
As co-organizers of WTISD, Chairman of
Communications Association of Hong Kong
(CAHK) - Dr. Hubert Chan and Council
Member of HKFYG - Ms. Junia HO
officiated the opening ceremony and shared
Hong Kong WTISD programs to the public.
Right after the sharing, an awards and prizes
were presented to winners of the 4-Panel
Comic Drawing Competition in the ceremony.
Geo-caching Hunting Competition Kick-off
Ceremony was also held by presenting the
hint cards to each group of participants.
More than 60 celebrities and representatives
of leading ICT companies and 200 students
attended the Ceremony. In addition, media
of 5 companies namely TVB, RTHK, Commercial
Radio, Hong Kong Broadband, and Oriental
Daily also attended the ceremony.
