The Communications Association of Hong Kong (CAHK) will launch a series of programs to celebrate the 5^th anniversary of WTISD-HK in 2011. The working partners this year are the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (HKFYG) and Pui Ching Academy (PCA).

The World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (previously known as World Telecommunication Day), which was held for the first time in 1969, each year on 17 May to commemorate the founding of the ITU in 1865. Each year, different countries or cities carry out various activities to celebrate this Day.

From 2007-2010, with support from the Office of the Telecommunication Authority (OFTA), Communications Association of Hong Kong (CAHK) had continued to celebrate WTISD-HK for promoting key messages of WTISD to the youth community in Hong Kong with an aim to enlighten their awareness of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) development in Hong Kong. Over thousand students were participated in the programs every year. In 2011, in order to cope with the theme Better life in rural communities with ICT and based on the advancement of the technology and the need to develop different software for the mobile industry, the program will be carried forward with a new initiative which aims to provide necessary training and arouse creating ideas for mobile applications.

The series of activities for 2011 will include Creating Mobile Applications for Smart Phones Competition (Proposal), Mobile Phone Software Application Competition (Finished Product), Geo-caching Hunting Competition, 2011 CAHK Trophy - ICT Quiz Competition, Writing Competition and ICT Open Day. All activities and prize presentation to winners will be scheduled on the ceremony launch day 14 May, 2011.
